Wines That You Love – Christmas

Wine is a very personal taste, a delicious can’t miss wine to us may not have quite the same effect for you. However we love to hear all comments and ratings for our wines and we have collected thousands and thousands over the year. We’re delighted to see so many five star comments, and we pay very close attention to the odd one star rating that we receive too.

We’re still open for Christmas business and you have all week to get your orders in, guaranteed for Christmas delivery. We appreciate there are a lot of wines on the website and we speak favorably on each and every one, mainly because we bought it so we love it. However today I thought I’d take a different route and share some comments we’ve received from our customers over the last week. Hopefully that helps your decision making.

White’s Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014 – £10.99

“Marlborough is one of New Zealand’s sunniest, driest areas located on the east coast, with mountains to the west. It’s in those bright yet relatively ‘cool’ conditions that Sauvignon grapes enjoy a slow, steady flavour-intensifying ripening. And that gives us one of the world’s most distinctive and expressive wine styles: Kiwi Sauvignon! You’ll revel in the ripe pineapple streak and gooseberry zing of Whites Bay. We recommend you serve this wine well-chilled as an aperitif or with your favourite seafood.” – Virgin

Sensational wine. I loved it so much I kept a hold of the empty bottle last night so I could re order and this morning an email arrived from yourselves for a case of this on special xmas offer – great timing, thank you Virgin. – Susann 5/5

Albacore Reserve Shiraz 2012 – £12.99

“Like the famous Albacore Tuna, the guys behind Albacore wines have endless energy and determination. Their niche is selecting the best grapes from individual regions and bringing them together seamlessly. A rich, smooth red, softened by age with pronounced notes of damson fruit with dark undertones, backed by classic mature notes of leather, chocolate-box and spice. A beautiful comfort wine, with an enveloping structure” – Virgin

“My husband and I really enjoyed this – we decanted it an hour or so before drinking it. Very, very smooth and full flavoured. Delish!” – Heather 5/5

16 Little Black Pigs Rose 2014 – £7.99

“Not only is Steve Grimley a very fine winemaker, but he also breeds pigs. Well, he holds them rather in a field and they do the rest. Things have spiralled since his first two pairs, and the population are threatening to over-run the vines, now being in the fourth generation (the vines that is). This delicious Rosé bears the second generation and goes a long way to provide a perfect, rose-petal and strawberry-scented pink, reminiscent of summertime.” – Virgin

“Just love this wine – it’s so fresh and tasty – a firm favourite now” – Katie 5/5

Finca Los Principes El Rihuelo Rioja 2013 – £12.99

“This stunning Finca los Principes release was crafted by a super-talented winemaker from an outstanding single vineyard of old Tempranillo and Garnacha vines. It’s a Rioja that pays homage to the traditional style of Rioja but one with a spring in its step. This smooth raspberry and cranberry-kissed wine is a beauty with lithe fruit notes and no ugly lingering tannins or woodwork. If you like unruffled, languid reds with silky notes and haunting mulberry and fresh herb flavours then this is your wine.” – Virgin

“I normally drink White and Rose but this wine could easily convert me. Excellent with food or just when you want something to relax with” – Rosalind 5/5

Vat 27 Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2013 – £12.99

“This wine is a classic Bordeaux blend given the Aussie treatment, (given a bit of girth) and mellowed in premium oak barrels in the winery cellar. The effect is dramatic: superb weight and punchiness is softened; fruit and oak is harmonised; exuberant Aussie fruit is slightly tamed and the juice, now bottled, is starting to take on secondary qualities of earth and leather. There’s still plenty of juicy, dark fruit character for your palate to bathe in. Decant and serve with a prime piece of beef.” – Virgin

“My favourite red wine to date. Full bodied, rich in flavour and very smooth to the palat. Enjoyable on its own or with food.” – Ray 5/5
