Medal Winning Wines

Wine awards may not possess the glitz and glamour of a Hollywood celeb fest, however for us they are the Oscars, Emmys and the BAFTAS. Recently the International Wine Challenge (IWC), International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) and Decanter World Wine Awards announced their yearly awards, and wouldn’t you know it a few wines we stock here at Virgin Wines made an appearance.

In total there were many medals awarded to wines that we currently stock, which we are absolutely delighted with that, and our wine buyers are walking around the office with quite the chip on their shoulders. So we thought we would showcase just a selection of these – why not pick up a medal winner in your next case?

Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose 2010 (IWC Silver, IWSC Silver, Decanter Silver)

Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose

World class Fizz doesn’t always originate in the Champagne region of France. In fact this medal winner originates from the Sussex South Downs. Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose offer an elegant, sophisticated tipple that has lashings of fresh English strawberries and vanilla ice cream. This delicious Fizz has a Chardonnay base, complimented with the redcurrant, raspberry fruits offered by the Pinot grapes. If you are celebrating the Great British summer, you’ve found your headline act.

Il Cascinone Rive Barbera 2011 (IWC Silver, Decanter Silver, IWSC Silver)

We head to northwest Italy for a classic Italian variety – Barbera. This wine has a rich, textured complexity to its flavour, with black cherries and prunes dominating the palate. Il Cascinone is picked from the finest grapes at an altitude of 450m (Rive is Piemontese for “very steep”). To make the most of this wine, you’re going to have to get that chef hat on. Partner this with a classic Italian dish like Spaghetti Bolognese or Lasagne to make it sing.

John X Merriman 2010 (IWC Silver)

John X Merriman

It really isn’t a surprise that this wine currently holds a 4/5 rating on our website. All the taste of a top notch French claret without the inflated price. This wine is packed with wonderful blackcurrant fruit, a spicy peppery kick and a generous dose of creamy oak. It also comes from one of South Africa’s finest wineries (Rustenberg) and produced by one of South African’s finest winemakers (Adi Badenhorst).

Famille Perrin Cote de Ventoux 2012 (Decanter Bronze)

This wine comes from the legendary Perrin family who own one of the finest estates in Cháteauneuf du Pape, Cháteau de Beaucastel. From the finest vines elevated by Mount Ventoux, this wine presents a decadent charm with excellent harmony and balance, in short it is everything you would expect from a fine French tipple. With a 4.4/5 rating on the website, it seems as though you agree.
