Now I have to admit, it’s not often you’ll find leftover wine in my household or in any other Virgin Wines employees houses for that matter. The wine is too good, and we are just too thirsty. However I know that sometimes you open a bottle on a Tuesday, polish off a glass or two, and then have plans for Wednesday and Thursday, this unfortunately leads to the wine either sitting in the fridge or keeping the toaster company on the worktop.
So when I came across this very simple recipe from Alice Medrich, a famous businesswomen, baker and cookbook author from LA, I simply had to give it a try. I’m pleased to say that the results were delicious. A funky adult snow-cone which helps you make the most of all your wine while enjoying a tasty treat, sign me up. Alice calls this her very own Granita recipe and the instructions could not be simpler.
1 cup of red or white wine
2 tablespoons of water
3 tablespoons of sugar
Some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if you like.
All you need to do is combine the wine, water and sugar, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves, and transfer it to a shallow baking dish. Pop the baking dish in the freezer, when it is partially frozen use a fork to break it all up into little shards and crystals. Then return it to the freezer to freeze completely. Serve it in a dish or tall glass with a dollop of whipped cream. Simple!
