How To Make Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is incredibly easy to make and absolutely delicious. One of the most popular questions we get asked in December is “How do you make mulled wine?”. We’re just a couple of weeks away from Christmas now, so we thought it would be the perfect time to pop up a quick recipe. When we say quick, we really mean it!

Here’s what you’ll need to create this spicy delight!

1 Bottle of Red Wine (We recommend a Zinfandel, Grenache or Merlot)

A Halved Orange

Cinnamon Stick

Grated Nutmeg

1 Bay Leaf

3 Cloves

1 Star Anise

1 Lemon Sliced

70g of demerara sugar

It’s at this point that we’d usually put up the step by step guide on creating your masterpiece. However it’s as easy as this. Place all the ingredients into a sauce pan and simmer gently for 8-10 minutes. Simmering is perfectly fine, but try not to let it boil. Once it’s simmered and all the wonderful flavours and spices have combined, serve it up into heatproof glasses.

A customer of ours last year mentioned that she had cooked this on the lowest heat in her slow cooker for 1-2 hours and it resulted in a wonderful depth of flavour. It also kept it warm through the whole evening too, what an added bonus if you want a 2nd or even 3rd glass.

If you want to make it that extra little bit special, we have the perfect gift this Christmas. A Mulled Wine Kit and Bauble Glasses Gift Set. One delicious bottle of wine, A muslin bag packed full of all the spices you’ll need, topped off with some festive bauble glasses! Perfection.
