Forrest Wineries Scoop A Hat-Trick Of Trophies

We are delighted to announce that Forrest Wineries have scooped three trophies for their Doctors Riesling 2014 wine – picking up a double for the Champion Rieslin and the Champion Open White Wine at the New Zealand Wine Awards this weekend. With over 1,500 entries from across New Zealand, the Air New Zealand Wine Awards are New Zealand’s most prestigious wine awards.

The Doctors Riesling 2014 perfectly highlights the innovative work that is being done at the Forrest estate with their commitment to quality and excellence. We have been working with Forrest for several years now and we are delighted to currently offer their Belmonte rage on our website over the festive season.

Speaking at the glamorous awards ceremony, Dr John Forrest, owner and winemaker commented:

“It is a pleasure to receive these trophies for this particular wine. I first produced this style in 2006, it has consistently delivered and helped put Riesling back on the map with consumers here in New Zealand and globally.”

“The Doctors Riesling has the added benefit of containing only 9% alcohol – it has
always been good for the mind, body and soul. One of the reasons we started making this wine back in the day, was our desire to offer a quality, lower alcohol wine; something to consider with the impending drink driving law changes this December in New Zealand.”

Make sure you check out our current profile on Dr John Forrest and his estate and if you haven’t sampled one of his delicious wines, here are a selection we currently stock.

Belmonte Riesling – £11.99

Riesling is arguably the best white grape of them all, offering absolute cracking value for money too…but some are still reluctant to buy anything without Chardonnay on the label. Never oaked, this varietal is for those who like their wines crisp, fruity and with an invigorating ‘whoosh’ of acidity. This special creation will age brilliantly with its locked in freshness, courtesy of that screw cap, and should continue to develop for 5-6 years. Steely, floral, dry and the perfect partner to white meat.

Belmonte Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc – 2013

Introducing Dr. John Forrest – New Zealand’s Winemaker of the Year 2000 and still raking in the awards. If you’re a fan of Cloudy Bay a) this is the same grape variety, b) it is made next door, c) you can actually buy it! This has a price tag that would make most of its neighbours blush and is so good that we bought the lot! Drink chilled when you want to… chill.

Belmonte Pinot Noir 2009 – £14.99

Made for us by New Zealand’s Winemaker of the year 2000 (and Dr Forrest just keeps getting better), in the cool climate of Marlborough – one of the few regions that can rival Burgundy at its best. Our customer, Georgie says it’s “very smooth, if you try one Pinot Noir this year, try this one”. Velvet smooth, strawberry notes, gentle tannins, warming alcohol and medium bodied.
