If you’ve ever attended our live event in London, it’s likely you’ve met the guys from Manzanos. It’s even more likely that you know what a wine headache feels like! We’ve been working with Manzanos for nearly a decade and they continue to surprise and delight us at every turn.
Manzanos is a family run business, and is currently led by the 5th generation of the Fernandez de Manzanos family. They’ve been crafting their wines in the region since 1890. So it’s fair to say they know a little something something when it comes to creating the best wines that truly represent the local area.
Heart of Spain
Manzanos own 250 hectares of vineyards and operate 11 different wineries in different and unique parts of the D. O. Ca. Rioja. This gives them access to some of the most premium fruit in the region. The skill developed over the years allows them to continue to create some of the finest wines that continue to generate praise all over the world. Lets just call winemaker Borja Ripa, the magician!
Bodegas Manzanos is a sight to see, resting in a picturesque setting. The chateau-style winery was built in 2002-2006 using the latest technology and architecture. The result? A beautiful winery that supports the innovative attitude of the family.
The Navarra region in Spain on the left bank of the river Ebro has experienced a transformation over recent years. Wineries have flourished thanks to the fertile soils. The Manzanos vineyards lie on the terraced and flat land of Ebro with a great amount of gravel and a clay presence. This ensures that the white varieties experience a good level of alcohol with a fruity balanced and refreshing taste. The reds on the other hand are structured and warm, giving you visions of tucking into paella on a warm Spanish evening.
It’s a testament to the Manzanos consistency that of the 6 bottles that we currently stock, the lowest rated wine by our customers is 4/5. The most popular wine being the Finca Manzanos Rioja Gran Reserva Alta Expression 2001. This wine has a staggering score of 4.6 out of 5. We’ll he heading over to see the family in Manzanos in April. This provides our staff a chance to get to know the wines, the region and the winery. The Manzanos family continue to produce some of the best wines we’ve ever tasted and our customers continue to enjoy them at every turn. Here’s to the next 10 years.
