Festival Of Wine Day 5: Perez Cruz

Perez Cruz have been a staple of our range for a long time now, and it’s not just because winemaker German Lyon is a rather charming chap. We know our customers absolutely love the wines that are produced by German in the Maipo Alto Valley. In fact the Perez Cruz Winemakers Selection has maintained a 4.4/5 star rating through nearly 2,000 customer reviews.

Their vines are planted on a variety of soil types that imbue the grapes with distinct flavour characteristics. They firmly believe that every bottle of wine produced carefully reflects the ‘terroir’ of ‘Maipo Valley. The soil at the foothills of the Andes are deep and stony. The Mediterranean climate features dry, hot summer, with temperatures fluctuating quite considerably between day and night, perfect growing conditions for making top quality wine.

Focusing on red wine production, Cabernet Sauvignon is at the heart of everything they do. Its thick skin and late ripening nature is a perfect match for the climate. They’ve planted several new varieties over the years so we will be working as closely as possible to bring new and exciting wines from these fast becoming Chilean masters.. At the moment we stock 7 Perez Cruz wines, all very distinct, all very individual, but all absolutely delicious.

You really can’t talk about Perez Cruz without mentioning their winery, it”s a feat in architecture. It’s built using natural wood with two barrel shaped central naves. Its sustainable design incorporates a gravity-flow process taking advantage of the conditions below ground, temperature and humidity are controlled naturally in the barrel cellar, which has a capacity for 5,000 barrels.

German Lyon’s wines are multi-award winning selections. Perez Cruz itself has a commitment to sustainability, and takes its environment responsibility very seriously. All of these aspects come together to make unforgettable wine, and personally we think everyone should try a Perez Cruz wine at least once, although we know that’s impossible, once you’ve tried it, you’ll keep coming back for more.
