Dave’s Wine of the Week – Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose 2010

This weekend, well this Sunday, is all about Mums. A day dedicated to the Mothers of the world. The tradition is to give presents and the perfect way to make this moment all that more momentous is to pop the cork on a bottle of something fizzy. For my Wine of the Week I’ve picked the ideal bottle to do just this!

Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose

The bubbly in question is produced at England’s Ridgeview Estate, which was founded in 1994 by Mike and Chris Roberts with the aim to craft world class sparkling wines. All the wines are made using the traditional Champagne method and today I’m focusing on their wonderful rosé – Fitzrovia 2010.

The blend is dominated by Chardonnay, giving the wine a zesty, orchard fruit driven base and wonderful finesse. The colour is provided by the addition of red wine, from the very ripest Pinots the estate has in any given vintage. This addition lends not only the wonderful colour the finished wine has but also aromatic red berry fruits to the nose and subtle strawberry fruit to the palate. It really is a match for Champagne’s finest rosés and comes in well below £30.

I think the Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose 2010 is such a great wine that I’ve actually gone ahead and sent my Mum a bottle for Mother’s Day. For this, I will most definitely be in her good books and will hopefully have got one up on my sisters!

Whatever you do for your mums this Sunday make them feel special.
