Christmas is a wonderful time of year. You get some time off work, you get to spend quality time with friends and family, and you get to unashamedly drink and eat to your hearts content. This can of course cause some panic in the household, Christmas is already extremely expensive. You could fall prey to the supermarket deals, but why should you have to compromise on quality for price. You can find extreme value by being smart with your shopping, and I’m here today to highlight a couple of remarkably inexpensive wines that are absolutely delicious.
Pinot Noir is a lovely expressive grape variety that will match your turkey to perfection. It can be extremely expensive if you elect for the premium areas, but there is value to be had by looking at some offerings off the beaten track, and Romania is exactly that. Dragon Hills Pinot Noir has a lovely light red fruited nose that is really rather pretty. There’s gentle supporting notes from a little time in oak and a delightfully soft finish. It’s youthful, it’s exuberant and it’s absolutely delicious. Romania is making quite the statement in the international wine market, so be one of the first to champion its cause.
The Black Pig range is one of our customer favourites. it constantly ranks at the top of our customer ratings, and as a result we keep going back for more. More varieties, more blends, more bottles. A wonderful cocktail of flavours from the home of fruit-driven wines: South Australia. Named after winemaker Steve Grimley’s group of vineyard-dwelling piggies. Oozing blackberry and bramble components from nose to tail, soft and silky to the touch.
This Sauvignon hails from an award-winning estate in Marlborough New Zealand. It packs in exceptional freshness, herbaceous grassy notes, a wonderfully rich, tropical fruit palate without losing the Sauvignon’s vibrancy and direct zesty freshness. Serve this chilled and your guests will be thanking you all year. It offers just incredible value at less than £10. You could have those boring, tasteless £5.99 Supermarket Sauvignon’s, but for a few extra £££, you can have something that will leave you having a very Merry Christmas.
Zinfandel is a natural partner to turkey and this Rosé offers the perfect balance to any meal. This is made with 100% Zinfandel grapes selected from old vine vineyards in the Lodi region of central California, lightly crushed to create a stunning pink wine. Strawberry ice cream on the nose supported by a bright, fruit packed strawberry jam palate. This isn’t a wine for the connoisseur, but it’s seriously fun, affordable and delicious.
What would the festive season be without a little sparkle? You can elect to spend a ton of money on Champagne for the name and recognition, but will that truly make it more enjoyable? Personally, I’ll be drinking this delicious Prosecco over Christmas, and with it being less than £10, it’s a no-brainer as Kevin Bacon would say. We blended this exclusive release working with Piemonte based award winning winery Araldica. Il Cortile Sereno is packed with peach and apple fruit character, crafted in a soft deliciously drinkable style that we know you all love, and finishes with a crisp citrus tang leaving your palate totally refreshed.
